Dirt is one of the most scorned blocks in Minecraft. It occurs in the form of grass blocks as the main land cover for most biomes (excluding Redwood Forest, Mesa Biome, Desert, Tundra, Taiga, and Mushroom) and is often found in pockets underground. Dirt can be mined by any tool, or even bare hands, but a Shovel is best. Its landcover (unless it is Snow) can only be obtained by a Silk Touch shovel (the land covers for Dirt are Grass, Mycelium, and Podzol).

  • Building a quick shelter
  • For pillar jumping
  • Farming
  • course dirt

  • Dirt is often scorned as a building material. This is because it "doesn't look nice" unlike Stone Bricks, Wood Planks, or Bricks. However, it can offer a decent amount of protection. Are you going to complain when it's all keeping a Creeper at bay?
  • Dirt takes a fraction of a second less time to break than Grass.
  • Dirt has been the oldest block besides Cobblestone and the grass block.
